Hanging flowers 005 PDF Print E-mail
ImageFor this hanging design I have used a floral foam wreath ring. I've tied on three loops equally spaced around the wreath using paper-covered wire (although green string would be equally suitable), so that I can attach three long red and green tartan ribbons to hang the design. It's important to make sure the hanger loops are equally spaced, and the ribbons exactly the same length, or the design will not hang correctly. I've edged the outside of the wreath with Hedera helix (Ivy) leaves, and the inside with red sisal, then covered the rest of the ring with groups of different types of foliage, this being Thuya, Picea pungens, and Heuchera "Stormy Seas", as well as more Hedera. I've also added some Mistletoe for a festive feel, so if you hang this somewhere where you can entice the object of your desire to stand under it, you might get lucky!! Three groups of trailing variegated Ivy have also been added. I've used nine red Gerbera, in three groups of three, and some red artificial berries for added colour. Finally, I've added three matching bows where the three hangers are. This design would look stunning outside on a hanging basket bracket, or even several the same hanging in a row outside the house. You could also have this hanging low in the centre of the Christmas table.

Flower on wall 004 PDF Print E-mail
ImageThis is a quick and easy festive wall hanging design. All that's needed is some twigs, some artificial plant material and some toning ribbon, and if you like, some copper wire. Here I've used some copper coloured twigs which are easily obtainable from many high street stores and supermarkets, and tied them in a bunch using paper covered wire. I've then added a single cream-coloured artificial Poinsettia flower for the focal point, then some stems of copper-coloured Orchids and some artificial green leaves, binding them into position as I go along. Then I've added some copper coloured artificial apples. I've then taken some copper wire and made some spirals and loops with it, and bound these into place. Finally, I've added a lovely bow, which tones well with the colours of the materials used. Takes about ten minutes!

ImageThis design has been made in a glass container, with floral foam for the mechanics. The dish has been filled with white and lime green sisal, to match the colour of the flowers used. I've taken a metal wreath ring which has been closely wrapped in wired sisal string, and used it to form a platform around the rim of the container. This has been fastened to the foam using metal pins. I've grouped some white glittery stems in the centre for height, and seven 'Prado' Carnations are arranged around them. Two groups of three Hedera colchica 'Sulphur Heart' leaves have been used at the base, and two groups of five cream roses have also been used. Some sisal covered baubles have been fixed into position to give interest, and the arrangement has been completed with green sisal balls, some of them wrapped in gold bullion wire.

ImageThis design has been made in an aluminium dish, with dry-foam for the mechanics. All the materials are dried or artificial. I've covered the foam with a collar of white sisal, then added a large white church candle in the centre. Three large cream and gold Poinsettias surround the candle, with silver and gold foliage and twigs arranged around the edge. I've added the contents of a pack of white and gold scented dried brunch balls and seed heads, wiring them to the foam for security.

Floral design 001 PDF Print E-mail
ImageI have used a brown rectangular base, and two bronze/copper coloured rectangular containers, the taller one placed behind the longer one. These containers were lined with black plastic, as they were made of sisal on a metal framework, and were somewhat see-through. I then stuffed each container with newspaper, and added floral foam, wrapped in black plastic, for the mechanics. For the height, I have used some Phormium tenax purpureum, and some copper coloured ting-ting. Other foliage used is Rubus tricolour, Fatshedera lizei, Hedera helix 'Erecta', and Hedera colchica variegata. Flowers used were Rosa "Narinja", Anigozanthos (Kangaroo Paw), and "Kermit" Chrysanthemums. I have also used some copper coloured artificial leaves and grapes. To link the two containers, I have used some bronze ribbon, and placed some artificial bronze coloured apples at the base of the design.
